WANTED: 67 KZN PUPILS TO HONOUR MADIBA’S LEGACY

ECR's General Manager Boni Mchunu

In an effort to make an ongoing, meaningful difference that lives beyond Mandela Day, East Coast Radio has begun a province-wide search as part of its #ECR67Scholars initiative. The station has committed to paying the school fees of 67 Grade 8 pupils right through to Grade 12. The initiative is based on former President, Nelson Mandela’s fervent belief that “education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."

Launched this morning, #ECR67Scholars is the brainchild of East Coast Radio’s General Manager, Boni Mchunu, who is seeking a more sustainable offering that lives beyond just Mandela Day. “That means we are making a difference not just today, but every day,” explains Mchunu. “Education is the tool to success not only for individuals but in terms of the future of our country. I am a firm believer in the importance of education and the importance of encouraging our children to complete matric. #ECR67Scholars does its bit to make sure Madiba’s legacy lives on.”

In addition to harnessing Madiba’s passion for children and education, #ECR67Scholars also taps into the “building communities for good” ethos of East Coast Radio’s parent company, Kagiso Media. The station has called on Grade 8 pupils from around KwaZulu-Natal to submit their motivations on www.ecr.co.za for a chance to be among 67 pupils selected for a scholarship programme. Entries close on 31 July 2016.

WINTER/ AUTUMN FASHION TIPS

Hi mates, so today i decided to try something I've been shying away from for a while now , fashion Blogging , well I didn't trust my self much when it comes to style, but I've been told many times that i have it. So i have picked up what i think should definitely be in your wardrobe this winter/autumn.

1. Polo Necks-  With the huge comeback of polo-necks , it a definite must have this winter,  You can rock your turtle neck under a slim blazer with a slim fit trouser or simply just wear it alone with a pair of shorter leg trouser showing off your happy socks.

2 Velvet Blazer - Not to sound cliche` but i cleaned up too well here right? haha Thanks to C squared.  A velvet blazer is a must have this winter especially if you  like to attend evening events like me ,  you never go wrong with a well tailored velvet blazer,  also add an accessory like a pocket square to enhance extravagance.

3. Trench Coats-  What can i say?  Trench coats have been around since way back , they just never get out of style.  Whether you going to a Gala Dinner or a fashion event a trench coat will always give you that smart look,  You can simply rock it over a well fitted suit, or if you on that smart casual tip, you can actually wear it over  a knitted sweater with slim fitted trousers.

A CHAT WITH THE LOOMING HIP HOP MUSO -BRANDON LEO

Brandon Leo

What pushed you to start making music?

Like any last born my older brother had the most influence in my life and making of music. He was also a rapper so I would quote his lyrics and try to change a few lines so I can have a deed of owning a song too.

When did you start and how long have you been making music?

I'd like to say I started when I was 11 but the truth is I first owned a song at the age 7. My big brother, Blstk, helped me write my first official track although I just wasn't at the stage of recording or even understanding what Hip Hop is. Overall though I've been rapping serious since 2009 so its been 7 years.

Who are your musical influences?

My biggest influence has to, and always will be the real slim shady Eminem, Drake, Tumi, J Cole, 2 pac and a spice of everyone else.

How  would you describe your  sound?

My sound is a spice of lyrical content on top of new age beats. I just believe you need to be heard as an artist and only than people will understand your true potential, I'm just versatile but home is being heard more then being danced to.

Which artists does your music sound similar to?

Honestly I think only my beats sound similar to other artists but my music is a whole may be a bit off the rules of Hip Hop most of the times but don't get me wrong, I'm really really really a Rapper.

What are some key life experiences that have influenced your music?

I don't like to mention this a lot but the most life changing experience has to be Nasty C blowing up, From recording with him on a daily, bunking school to go to studio with him, to him having be one of the greatest artists to come out of SA, S/O to the homie for showing that consistency works all the time.

I had a great time chatting to this chap you can follow him on :

Durban upcoming female artist, Zamalwandle Nzuza also known as Ash said this is a great opportunity for her and she sees it as a great platform to share her art with music lovers and her followers.

Another upcoming artist known as Thonyalabantu went on and thanked the organisers for recognising them for such a huge event.“The crowd was amazing, the energy that they gave me was something else. I would like to thank all the organisers that made this possible,” Thonyalabantu said.
The line-up which was packed with all the hottest rappers, MC’s and DJ’s in the game had the crowd sweating from busting the latest dance moves and singing along to the lyrics of their favourite tracks.
